5 Things Not to Expect at Apple iPhone 16 Event

Apple's highly anticipated fall event "It's Glowtime" is set for Monday, September 9, and all eyes are on the unveiling of the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro lineup, along with the latest Apple Watch models.

While there’s plenty of excitement around what will be revealed, it's equally important to consider what won’t make the cut this time around. To help you manage your expectations, we’ve compiled a list of five products that are unlikely to be announced this month but are more likely to debut later in the year or in 2025 and beyond.

M4-Powered Macs

Apple is working on new Macs equipped with its cutting-edge M4 chip, leveraging TSMC's advanced second-generation 3nm technology. This chip promises significant enhancements in both performance and power efficiency over the current M3-based models. We anticipate these new M4-powered Macs to be unveiled later this year, likely with announcements in October and potential releases in November.

Development logs indicate that Apple is testing several configurations, including machines with 10-core CPUs and GPUs, as well as a unique 8-core CPU and GPU model. All these Macs are expected to feature either 16GB or 32GB of Unified Memory. Additionally, mass production is underway for next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, which will include M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. If Apple follows its usual release patterns, these models could be available within the next two months.

iPhone SE 4

After the debut of the iPhone 16 series, Apple is expected to introduce the fourth-generation iPhone SE at the beginning of 2025. This model is rumored to adopt a design similar to the iPhone 14, replacing Touch ID with Face ID, and switching to a USB-C port. It will also feature an Action button, an Apple-designed 5G modem, and an A18 processor. The display is set to grow from 4.7 inches to 6.06 inches and will be OLED for the first time. Additionally, the device is likely to include 8GB of RAM, up from the 4GB in the 2022 model.

The iPhone SE 4 could potentially launch before the Lunar New Year in January 2025, although a March 2025 release is also a strong possibility given Apple’s historical release patterns for the SE models.

HomePod mini 2

The HomePod mini will turn four years old this October, and a second-generation model is expected to be in the works. Although details are sparse, we might see enhancements in sound quality, microphone performance, and an updated S-series chip. Potential new features could include improved Apple Intelligence to compete with Amazon’s upcoming Claude AI-powered Echo devices. Recent changes to the HomePod mini’s color options, replacing Space Gray with Midnight, suggest that a new model might not be announced at the upcoming event.

AirPods Pro 3

A redesigned version of the AirPods Pro is anticipated in 2025. This new iteration is expected to offer enhanced audio quality, a more refined design, and a faster chip. Additional features could include a new hearing test function to detect potential hearing issues and advanced health sensors capable of measuring body temperature from the ear canal. Significant upgrades in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) are also rumored, although specific details on these improvements are yet to be revealed.

New Apple TV

Apple is reportedly developing a new Apple TV with a faster processor, while maintaining the current design. Initial expectations suggested a 2024 launch, but recent indications suggest that an update may not be imminent. Analysts have hinted that the new Apple TV could be more affordable, potentially following Apple’s history of price reductions for the device. A future model might also feature a built-in camera for FaceTime and other video calling apps, aligning with recent enhancements in tvOS 17, which allows FaceTime through a connected iPhone or iPad.
